Enfield & The Barnets UNA Book Group
The Enfield & The Barnets UNA has formed
a Book Group that meets once every two months.
The aim is to discuss a book that is concerned with global issues.
This provides an opportunity for those there to engage in a free
political and social discussion about issues that are often neglected
by other groups including political parties. So the aim of the
Book Group is to raise awarenes, develop our ideas and, of course,
it also has great social value as well.
Next Meeting Of The Book Group - Wednesday 11th October
The UNA Book Group will meet at the above date to discuss Amartya
Sen's "Identity and Violence: the Illusion of Destiny"
(Allen Lane 2006, £16.99). Palmers Green Bookshop will give
a 10% discount to members of the UNA. Sen, a Nobel Prize winning
economist, challenges the assumption that we have "unique
identity" and analyses its role in conflict. For more details

The last book they discussed was Michael Woodin and Caroline
Lucas's "Green Alternatives to Globalisation: a Manifesto"
(Pluto 2004, £11.99). The book is a powerfully argued challenge
to the assumption that market-dominated globalisation is inevitable
- or sustainable.
