Civil Society Forum

Enfield & The Barnets UNA has been instrumental in working with others to form a locl Civil Society Forum. The aims of the Civil Society Forum are to bring together community, voluntary and campaigning groups to learn from each other and to collaborate where appropriate on areas of common interest and activity. It is not itself a new organization, rather an alliance of groups working in related and overlapping fields. Through collaboration between cognate groups, the Civil Society Forum aims to increase effectiveness, stimulate ideas and broaden debate. At its core is the injunction to “act local, think global”.

Promoting Fair Trade

The CSF has been activly promoting "Fair Trade Borough" status for Enfield. A small subgroup has placed this high on the Council’s agenda, and the issue is still under consideration. A successful fair trade event was held during the year, at which local retailers held stalls to show off their fair trade range and councillors from both sides of the chamber spoke in favour of fair trade ideals

The Role Of Women

The SCF combines the strength of local groups concerned with issues touching on the role of women in the UK in the global context. These issues include women’s role as decision makers, domestic violence, women and development, micro credit, equal pay, and how to respond to the new Commission on Equalities and Human Rights.
