Many schools around the world are starting Model United Nations General Assemblies and Security Councils as a way of fostering understanding and developing global citizenship.

Fostering Global Citizenship

Global citizenship begins at home, with a commitment to live responsibly, to regard all human beings as fellow citizens, and to be proactive in seeking the common good. To this end the Enfield & The Barnets UNA is working with others to develop the idea of global citizenship locally. One of the first steps in this is developing ideas of global citizenship with local universities, colleges and schools.

Model Security Council

We are actively working with the University of Middlesex to promote global citizenship as part of its development programme. By organising with the University a model Security Council, students can role play around global issues and thereby develop skills around both citizenship and communication as well as gain knowledge about the United Nations itself.

Working In Partnerhip With Schools

We are also working with a number of teachers, advisors and school governors to translate the idea that we are devloping with the Univertsity of Middlesex into a model that can be used within schools in our local area.
