The Fairtrade Foundation was launched in 1992 by Christian Aid,
Oxfam and
others to help producers in poor countries of the many products
we eat and
wear to get a better deal by encouraging us to buy goods with
the Fairtrade
label. Fairtrade growers of things like coffee, tea, sugar, fresh
fruit and
cocoa get a fair price for their produce, giving them higher incomes
and
more money to invest in modern production methods. Fairtrade helps
some 5
million people - farmers, workers and their families in 60 countries
- to
live a better life. In this country it is supported by the Women¹s
Institute
and the Co-operative Movement and by our local Marks and Spencer
and
Waitrose.
LEnfield Borough Over 50s Forum is independent and non-party
political. It
aims to raise the quality of life for older people by giving them
a voice in
such matters as health, transport, leisure, pensions and benefits
and in
opposing age discrimination in all its forms
The Forum seeks to influence local decision-makers such as councillors,
MPs,
and the Primary Care Trust responsible for administering the NHS
in our
area. We believe older people represent a powerful force and by
working with
others we can help make Enfield a Borough to be proud of.
With more than 800 members, the Forum campaigns on a range of
issues such as
improving the 25p Age Addition paid to pensioners at 80 and more
access to
public toilets making it the representative
