The Planning and Infrastructure Bill 2025 represents one of the most significant shifts in the English planning system for over a decade. While the Government claims it will accelerate housing and infrastructure delivery, including important projects to support the roll out of green energy, environmentalists are alarmed that the arrangements around the Nature Recovery Fund in section three pose a serious threat to biodiversity in the UK.

GOVERNMENT SPENDING ANNOUNCEMENT ON CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE
The UK Government's investment in carbon capture and storage (CCS) has sparked controversy in the environmental world. While there is a case for capturing CO₂ from industrial sites like cement plants, which could contribute to net zero goals, the majority of the Government's investment is planned for CCS on new fossil fuel and existing bioenergy plants (eg Drax) which increases net emissions.
